The Far Horizons

Logbook 4/2/12
It is 4:30 AM. I am sitting on a bench in front of Flying Fish Marina so that I could get a WiFi signal. At least Internet has been working here. For the last couple weeks we have been in uninhibited anchorages, or in places where there is no WiFi (or---we gonna fix it soon mon). A local cat just rubbed against my leg in the dark and I fudged my undies. This location is in Clarence Town, Long Island. They call the Southern Bahamas "the Far Horizons". Most cruisers never venture this far South because of the remoteness and lack of facilities. When we finally entered the Bahamas on our trip North, we cleared in at Mayaguana. Abraham's Bay is a reef anchorage (you have to pass thru a cut thru the coral reef to get inside). The island has a population of 350 and dropping. The WiFi was down in the Government office where we cleared in for Customs & Immigration. The next stop was an uninhabited bay, Atwood Harbour on Acklins Island. There was supposed to be a beach front bar, but the hurricane last year destroyed it. At first light we head to Georgetown, Exuma. They call it "chicken Harbour" because it is the Southernmost spot where you can get services. Most cruisers are chicken to go further South. From there we plan to go up to Compas Cay or Warderick Wells. Then over to Fresh Creek on Andros Island. Then Chub Cay, then Bimini, then Ft. Lauderdale. We have been very lucky with weather so far. Only missed one day because of 10 foot seas in Turks & Caicos. Hope to be back in the USA in 6 more travel days. Will try to keep you posted as connectivity permits.
