Island tour

Did a driving tour of the island with our friend Charles Cutright acting as our guide. Charles has been a "Lucian" for 10 years. His work in publishing and adventure tours has acquainted him with many unique areas of St. Lucia. He knows all the back roads and little settlements that are not on the normal tours. One of our favorite areas was the settlement of Fond Gens Libre (village of the free people). It was first settled by runaway slaves during the 1748 rebellion. It is the starting point for the climbing trail for Gros Piton. Another favorite was "The Devil's Bridge" going over a very deep, narrow gorge with a beautiful river at the bottom. Rumor has it that the bridge showed up overnight because the builder made a deal with the devil to give away the soul of the first to cross it. When the builder sent a goat across, the enraged devil caused the bridge to crack in the middle. Next adventure, weather permitting is a boat trip to The Grenadines for the Bequia Regatta.
